More than 80% of Tatarstan citizens do not earn extra money: Tatarstan Academy of Sciences conducted sociological research

Only 19.3% of Tatarstan citizens in the past year did side work and received natural income. The results of the sociological research were summed up by The center for advanced economic research of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. More than 15 thousand people took part in the survey. 80.7% of respondents noted the lack of secondary employment.

In addition to the main work, every third resident of Verkhneuslonsky, Kamsko-ustyinsky districts worked and received additional natural income. Every fifth inhabitant of Alekseevsk, Atnya, Kaybitsk and Atnya, Laishevsk, Novosheshminsk, Sarmanovsky and Tukay municipal districts worked.

For the majority, part-time work lasted from 1 to 3 months (47.2%), for every fifth - from 3 to 6 months or 6 to 9 months (19.8% and 18.2%); 14.8% of the population worked part-time for 9 to 12 months. The jobs from 1 to 3 months are often in demand in Baltasi, Kamsko-Ustyinsk, Tukay, Yutazin municipal districts. Additional work within 3 to 6 months most often involved in Atnya, Saba and Verkhneuslon areas; for 6 - 9 months additionally moonlighting in the Buinsk, Mamadysh and Novosheshminsk districts. The longest jobs take the residents of Zelenodolsk, Nizhnekamsk and Rybno-Slobodsk districts.   

The vast majority of those who work part-time, the ratio of additional income to the amount of basic income was not more than 10% (41.4%). A third of respondents - from 10 to 25% (29.5%). The number of those with this ratio ranged from 25 to 50% (15.6% of respondents), twice the number of those with this ratio was from 50 to 75% (8.6%).  4.8% of respondents said that their income from additional work reaches 75-100% of the main income.

Option "10 %" is more common in Bugulma and Tukay areas; option "10 to 25%" in Vysokogorsk and Cheremshan areas; an option "25 to 50%" in Almetyevsk and Kukmor regions, the variations from "50 to 75% and from 75 to 100%" – in Nizhnekamsk region.

Also in the survey the population was asked to assess the current relationship between employer and employee: 37.9% of respondents called them average. The proportion of those who consider them good is twice that of those who call them bad (28.7% to 14.5%).

It should be noted that since January 2019, all unofficially moonlighting Tatarstan citizens should register as self-employed. Experimental tax regime was introduced in Tatarstan, Moscow, Moscow and Kaluga regions. At the moment, 26 thousand people have registered as self-employed in the Republic
