15 February 2019, Friday

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a government decree on creation of 14 advanced development territories in Russia. Among them - the Tatarstan town - Mendeleyevsk. This was reported today at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.

As noted by the Ministry of Economy of Tatarstan, this will reduce the mono dependence of the economy of the Republic and the city of Mendeleyevsk. It is worth noting that the law provides for relief for federal, regional, local taxes and lower insurance premiums for residents of TASED.

Creation of Mendeleyevsk TASED will allow the implementation of 19 investment projects with a total investment of 4.8 billion rubles, including capital investments of 3.5 billion rubles and creation of 630 new permanent jobs.

In general, creation of a territory of advanced development will provide the conditions necessary for integrated development of Mendeleyevsk town, will be an effective tool for increasing the investment attractiveness of the territory, will contribute to technological development of the business environment.

Mendeleyevsk is a town with a pronounced single-industry structure. The population is 22.3 thousand people. Economically active population (2017) - 10.2 thousand people, the average number of employees of enterprises (2017) - 6.9 thousand people. The registered unemployment rate as of January 1, 2019 is 1.36% (including pendulum migration).

Mendeleyevsk town is located in the northeastern part of the Republic of Tatarstan, on the right bank of the Kama River, and has a favorable economic and geographical position at the intersection of key traffic flows: rail, road and water. The potential for the development of logistics is due to the fact that Mendeleyevsk is located between the economic regions of Russia — the Industrial Center — on the one hand, and the Urals — on the other, at the intersection of the most important communications, including the Kama River, combining into a single system of vast natural resource potential of the east of Russia with its consumer-capacious west.

The territory of the town is crossed by the federal highway M7 "Volga" "Moscow - Ufa" (through the cities of Izhevsk, Perm).

The Agryz-Bugulma railway passes along Mendeleyevsk town, thus connecting the town with large industrial Volga cities in the direction of north-west-south.

Mendeleyevsk belongs to the category of single-industry towns which have risks of deterioration of the socio-economic situation (category 2), according to the List of single-industry municipalities of the Russian Federation (mono-towns), approved by order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated July 29, 2014 No. 1398-r.

The main town-forming company of Mendeleyevsk is Chemical Plant named after L.Ya.Karpov Joint-Stock Company. The main activity is the chemical industry.

Among the new TASEDs also – Territories of advanced development Yasny in the Orenburg region, Kataysk (Kurgan region), Neftekamsk (Bashkiria), Beloretsk (Bashkiria), Blagoveshchensk (Bashkiria), Kostomuksha (Karelia), Seversk (Tomsk region), Lesnoy (Sverdlovsk region), Uralsk (Sverdlovsk region), Chapayev (Samara region), Glazov (Udmurtia), Reshetikha (Nizhny Novgorod region) and Volodarsk (Nizhny Novgorod region).
