Tatarstan sees record low level of unemployment, Rustam Minikhannov

On August 4, at a session of Tatarstan Cabinet’s Economic Council held by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, members of the council discussed current situation at labour market and personnel training for economic sectors.

Speaking at the session, Rustam Minnikhanov said that further innovative development of economy and modernization of industry are impossible without training of highly skilled staff and increase of labour efficiency.

He noted that the all-time low unemployment level was registered officially in Tatarstan for the last decades, it is 15,900 people (0.77 per cent of economically active population). At the same time, the need for highly skilled staff is increasing. Major industrial enterprises are experiencing staff shortage. The number of vacancies is 47,000.

We have extensive plans for further development, which consist in Innopolis and Alabuga special economic zones, Smart City Kazan, development of Kama industrial cluster, oil-gas and petrochemical sectors. All the projects require highly skilled staff.

Rustam Minnikhanov believes that cooperation between higher educational institutions, industrial enterprises and businesses is important. The balance of human resources should be maintained, and enrollment at professional educational institutions should meet market criteria, the president said. Also, labour migration needs to be increased in the republic, he continued.

Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Protection Airat Shafigullin reported on current situation at labour market. As for urgent problems, he pointed out shortage of qualified staff, quality of staff training, and low labour mobility of population.

Airat Shafigullin suggested working out co-financing mechanisms of municipal employment programs, Tatarstan president’s press service reports.
