Tatarstan is among Russia's leaders in innovative development

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) has published a traditional rating of the innovative development of Russian regions. The Republic of Tatarstan took the 2nd place according to the results of the rating for 2025.

In 2024, Tatarstan took the 3rd place in the rating, showing positive dynamics, the republic moved up one place.

Moscow became the leader of the rating this year, while Nizhny Novgorod Region took the 3rd place.

The rating evaluates regions according to 5 thematic indexes: the level of innovation activity, the quality of its supporting socio-economic conditions, regional policy, scientific and technical potential and export activity.  The Republic of Tatarstan returned to the second place, advancing to the first places in terms of innovation activity indices and the quality of innovation policy.

The republic also took the 3rd place in terms of socio-economic conditions of innovation activity.

The rating of innovative development of the subjects of the Russian Federation is formed by the Institute of Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge (IIEZ) HSE since 2012. The rating is based on the analysis of 55 statistical indicators, which form 5 key blocks, which assess the positions of the regions and determine the directions for the further development of innovation policy.
