6 April 2021, Tuesday

78 single-industry towns were distinguished among the territories with the most favorable urban environment according to the results of the "Urban Environment Quality Index" rating for 2020. According to the results of the calculation of the Index, which reflects the assessment of the quality of the urban environment and the conditions of its formation, Nizhnekamsk entered the top-5 single-industry towns of the country, with a high score also: Tutaev of the Yaroslavl region, Kozmodemyansk of the Mari El Republic, Kanash of the Chuvash Republic and Tolyatti of the Samara region.

The index is formed annually by the Ministry of Construction of Russia together with DOM.RF with the participation of "KB Strelka" in order to implement the provisions of the May decrees of the President of Russia.

It is also worth noting that among the 78 Russian single-industry towns, the social and leisure infrastructure is most developed in Naberezhnye Chelny.

In general, in 2020, the number of single-industry towns with a favorable urban environment increased by 10%. In 2019, there were only 55 single-industry towns on this list.

Let us recall, that one of the criteria for compiling the rating was the improvement of public urban spaces in single-industry towns: parks, squares, streets and promenades. Earlier, more than 1.180 such projects were implemented in the cities as part of the "5 Steps to Improve Everyday Life" program, implemented with the participation of the Single-Industry Towns Development Fund. A number of them were taken into account in the evaluation.

For reference: The index is based on the assessment of six types of urban spaces in accordance with six criteria for the quality of the urban environment: safety, comfort, environmental friendliness and health, identity and diversity, modernity and relevance of the environment, and management efficiency.
