Two Tatarstan towns at once entered the TOP-10 of the best single-industry towns in Russia. The results of the rating for 2019 were summed up by the Single-Industry Towns Development Fund at the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO. The top ten towns that showed a high level of socio-economic development included Naberezhnye Chelny and Nizhnekamsk.

“Today we have announced the new top ten. These are the single-industry towns that have already gone beyond the prefix “mono”, they have grown stronger, they need a more ambitious approach. These are towns where you do not need to save the situation and just create jobs. They need more: the development of the urban economy, the urban environment. The time has come to include them in a new major work in these areas. The Single-Industry Towns Development Fund and VEB.RF are ready to help”, said Irina Makiyeva, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF, General Director of the Single-Industry Towns Development Fund.

As part of the award ceremony, Naberezhnye Chelny single-industry town was noted for its economic activity. The town’s team actively attracts investors and cooperates with the Single-Industry Towns Development Fund for financial and non-financial instruments. Note that Naberezhnye Chelny is constantly included in the TOP-10 single-industry towns in Russia.

In Nizhnekamsk, in 2019, the attitude of residents of a single-industry town to the economic situation improved and the potential for entrepreneurial activity in the field of SMEs increased. The Head of Nizhnekamsk, Aidar Metshin, according to the results of online voting, was recognized as the most active head in social networks.

The TOP-10 of the best single-industry towns this time included: Naberezhnye Chelny of the Republic of Tatarstan, Tolyatti of the Samara Region, Pervomaisky of the Tula Region, Gubkin of the Belgorod Region, Kumertau of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Cherepovets of the Vologda Region, Kostomuksha of the Republic of Karelia, Nevinnomyssk of the Stavropol Territory, Nizhnekamsk of the Republic of Tatarstan and Tutayev of the Yaroslavl Region.

The rating of single-industry towns is held annually. It helps to identify the strongest and most promising sides of the leading single-industry towns, as well as to identify the most successful projects to improve the quality of life of citizens. Subsequently, the leaders of the 2019 ranking will become mentors for other Russian single-industry towns within the framework of the MONOGORODA.RF “Mentoring” project. They will share their experience in attracting investments, developing the urban economy and the urban environment.
