5 November 2020, Thursday

The 18 largest single-industry towns in Russia in terms of number will be included in the VEB.RF program for development of the urban economy. Together with experts, they will look for projects that are promising for financing, each of which will be aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens.

The list of cities includes Naberezhnye Chelny and Nizhnekamsk of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Together with the VEB.RF team, the largest mono-territories of Tatarstan will work to improve the urban economy in 14 areas. Among them: housing and communal services, ecology, education, tourism and recreation, urban environment, IT - infrastructure, transport, development of SMEs.

Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of VEB.RF: “Development of a modern urban economy is one of the priorities of the entire VEB.RF group. Not only purely investment goals are important for us in this work, but also the effect that our projects bring to improve the quality of life of people, specific families. We are confident that together with residents, federal, regional and municipal authorities, business partners, we will be able to create new opportunities for self-realization and comfortable life in Russian single-industry cities”.

“We have come a long way together: we passed training at Skolkovo, successfully implemented a program for the integrated development of single-industry towns, a number of joint projects. We see great potential in single-industry towns, a desire to move forward. This desire needs to be supported, so we invited them to the large VEB.RF program for development of the urban economy. Now large single-industry towns will be able to apply the double support of development institutions - VEB.RF and MONOGORODA.RF for their territories”, said Irina Makiyeva, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF, General Director of the Single-Industry Towns Development Fund.

As part of the event, the Mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny, Nail Magdeyev, noted that the team of the mono-town plans, together with VEB.RF, to work out projects on housing and communal services, transport and healthcare:

“All announced programs are certainly interesting for us. We are already participating in one of the federal projects aimed at supporting the environment and thanks to it, we are building storm sewers. However, this is not enough, more needs to be built. The second important area for us is the functioning of public transport. The problem with large buses needs to be addressed. Also, the city has a high need for educational and health care institutions. Together with VEB.RF, we expect to improve these areas of the urban economy”, he said.

In the near future, the specialists of the VEB.RF group will hold a series of meetings with each single-industry town to search for promising projects.
