According to the results of January-April 2020, the growth rate of Tatarstan GRP amounted to 101.2%

The temporary suspension of activities of organizations in connection with the difficult epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the persistence of negative foreign economic conditions, affected the decline in economic activity in April of this year. In general, according to the results of January-April 2020, the gross regional product of the Republic of Tatarstan amounted to 742.3 billion rubles, or 101.2% in comparable prices to the level of the corresponding period of 2019 (in the first quarter of this year - 102.0%).

Amid weakening external demand and lower energy consumption during the quarantine period in April of this year, industrial production decreased by 5.3% compared to April 2019. In general, according to the results of January-April, the industrial production index amounted to 102.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, enterprises of the republic shipped goods of their own production in the amount of 846 billion rubles (104.6% in the first quarter of this year).

The main factor of the restrained dynamics in the industry is a 2.6% reduction in mineral production compared to January-April 2019. In providing electric energy, gas, steam; air-conditioning production index fell by 6.6%, in water supply; water disposal, organization of waste collection and disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 25.4%.

There is an increase in manufacturing by 7.1% compared to January-April last year. Positive dynamics was achieved in production of coke and petroleum products (118.4% compared to January-April 2019), medicines and materials used for medical purposes (125.5%), rubber and plastic products (115.1%), food products (122.3%), beverages (108.0%), textiles (158.3%), metallurgy (113.0%), paper and paper products (112.6%), clothing (102, 2%), electrical equipment (102.0%), computers, electronic and optical products (101.6%).

At the same time, production volumes of other vehicles and equipment (52.6% compared to January-April 2019), leather and leather products (76.1%), machinery and equipment (84.3%), furniture (84 , 9%), wood processing and the manufacture of wood and cork products (85.9%), motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (88.0%), other finished products (90.8%) decreased.

Agricultural and construction sector organizations did not stop their work, maintaining a positive trend. According to the results of January-April of this year, the volume of agricultural production amounted to 59.9 billion rubles, or 101.9% in comparable prices to the level of the corresponding period of 2019. The volume of construction work increased by 8.5% in comparable prices to the level of January-April 2019 and amounted to 67.3 billion rubles. 939.0 thousand square meters of housing were commissioned.

The largest decline in April was observed in sectors of the economy focused on consumer demand. Retail trade turnover decreased in January-April of the current year by 3.5% in comparable prices to the level of the corresponding period of 2019 and amounted to 290.8 billion rubles. The decrease was primarily due to a decrease in the segment of non-food products (94.5% in comparable prices compared to the level of January-April 2019). Due to restrictions on activities in the field of leisure, culture and sports, domestic services, the volume of paid services provided to the population decreased by 12.4% in comparable prices compared to the level of January-April 2019.
