Circular economy to be discussed in Tatarstan

Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia Mikko Hautala and chief adviser of the Finnish national fund for research and development SITRA Timo Makela will discuss a joint project on circular economy with the Republic of Tatarstan during their visit to the KSEU.

From 25 to 27 November 2019 Tatarstan will be visited by a large delegation of representatives of Finnish companies and the academic community of Finland. The delegation is headed by Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia Mikko Hautala.

In April 2019, an agreement was reached on the establishment of the center of Circular Economy on the basis of KSEU, the activities of which will be: The center will be engaged in the development of educational courses for students and pupils on circular economy, advanced training of employees of enterprises, organizations and departments in this field and research on green technologies in all industries.
This agreement was confirmed by the management of the Fund SITRA/SITRA during the visit of the official delegation of Tatarstan led by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov to Finland in June of this year, which hosted the international forum circular economy - World Circular Economy Forum. On behalf of Rustam Minnikhanov, KSEU together with JSC "Tatneftekhiminvest Holding" is working on a number of measures for the implementation of projects in the field of circular economy in the Republic, including the creation of the Tatarstan-Finnish center of circular economy on the basis of the University.

The current visit of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia Mikko Hautala to Tatarstan confirms the intentions of the parties at a new, higher level. It is expected that the Ambassador and experts of the SITRA Foundation will discuss the prospects of the Tatar-Finnish center for circular economy, including the possibility of attracting Finnish companies to its work and the implementation of a number of projects in the near future.

Timo Makela is recognized as an international expert on environmental management policy, finance, sustainable development, clean technologies and green development. He is also SITRA's principal consultant on issues related to resource efficiency, carbon-free society and circular economy. For Makel, this is not the first visit to Tatarstan and KSEU in 2019. During his previous visits, he got acquainted with the scientific centers and technologies of the energy University, visited the center "Danfoss", the center of competence and technologies in the field of energy conservation, the training center "Electroskills" and the Technopark of kseu, as well as gave lectures on Circular economy for representatives of industrial enterprises and companies, government agencies and organizations.

Circular economy is a closed economy based on the maximum use of renewable resources with minimal emissions into the environment, minimizing the consumption of primary raw materials, reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill.
