Development of regional brands was discussed in Kazan

8 February 2019, Friday

A meeting chaired by the Deputy Minister of Tatarstan, Indira Kireyeva, on development of regional brands was held in Kazan. Representatives of executive committees of the municipal districts of the republic took part in the event in the form of video conferencing. Indira Kireyeva's speech was devoted to execution of the instructions of the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko to promote the products of regional producers in domestic and foreign markets through the use of registered brands.

One of the popularization components of a regional brand is its registration as an appellation of the place of origin of goods (APOG). The presence of a registered APOG provides the brand owner with protection against counterfeit and unfair competition, and the consumer is guaranteed special and unique properties of the product. As examples, traditional goods widely known in Russia and abroad were cited: “Vologda butter” - in the Vologda region, “Bashkir honey” - in the Republic of Bashkortostan, “Tula samovar” and “Tula gingerbread” - in the Tula region. These products are brands of their regions.

The Deputy Minister noted that the republic has a number of exceptional traditional products with unique properties, but at the moment they are not registered. It is necessary to strengthen the work in this regard.

The procedure of state registration of the appellation of origin of goods can be studied in the reference information.
