Following the results of IoT World Summit Russia, the first open NB-IoT network in Russia will be deployed in Innopolis

4 October 2018, Thursday

World Digital Summit on the Internet of Things Technology (IoT World Russia Summit), organized by the international research company Redenex, took place on October 1-2 in Kazan.

The event was attended by about 900 delegates from 25 countries and 120 experts who participated in panel discussions on digital transformation, the industrial Internet of things, smart energy, creation of innovative cities and the development of IoT startups, blockchain and cybersecurity.

The summit was opened by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Informatization and Communication of the Republic of Tatarstan - Roman Shaikhutdinov and Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency - Taliya Minullina. “Not coincidently the summit on the Internet of Things has been held for the second year in a row in Tatarstan. We have created favorable conditions for transition to the era of the digital economy: residents of the republic have long been very active in using electronic services, the penetration rate of broadband Internet access is increasing, cybersecurity technologies are developing”, said Roman Shaikhutdinov.

Deputy Prime Minister read out to the participants the welcoming speech of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, who wished everyone fruitful work and expressed confidence that as a result of professional and productive discussion, new business contacts can be established and new ideas put into practice.

The Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency expressed confidence that the Republic would become the center of Internet of things at the federal level. “We think that this summit will expand and develop. We plan to hold it annually. It would be great if such an all-Russian event took place here”.

During the event, plenary sessions and expert presentations on digital transformation of markets and business, new approaches to industry, smart urban environment and technological entrepreneurship took place.

“Today, the technology of industrial Internet of Things has made it possible to transform numerical models into a living, continuously acting form, or a digital twin. What does this mean? This means that the station that generates electricity will not stop for unscheduled repairs, the aircraft will depart in due time and safely, the cars will become better, receiving new “broaching”, like our mobile phones”, says the executive director of “Digital Transformation Factory” Andrey Krylov. - These technologies allow us to make products more reliable and of higher quality.”

According to the Head of Industry 4.0 direction of SIBUR, Valeriy Cherepanov, the task of Industry 4.0 is to teach the systems to work autonomously and independently make decisions based on the analysis of big data. “For successful launch of digital projects, it is necessary to form a cross-functional team, where everyone is interested in the final result, provide support for changes at the highest level, hear the business and focus on its needs when implementing digital solutions. Only full involvement of all interested parties guarantees a product that fully meets the customer's expectations and useful to him”, said a SIBUR representative.

Not only industrial companies are subject to digital transformation, but entire cities as well, experts said. And if at the initial stage the term “smart city” was called technology to enhance the informatization of cities, now it has become a whole concept of development with the use of various technologies of the Internet of things to improve the quality of life of residents.

The founder and General Director of Cities of People (Belgium), Karl-Philip Cohenegrachts, shared his international experience in introducing information technologies into the urban environment. In his opinion, a smart city is, first of all, a city for people. Thus, the city of Ghent, where he has been working as a Chief Strategy Specialist for a long time, is an excellent example: it is open and friendly to people of any age. Local municipalities strive to realize a diversified economy built on the principles of environmental safety and general welfare.

"Smart" energy was allocated in a separate stream. In particular, Sergey Emelyanov, General Director of Transneftenergo OOO (Limited Liability Company), spoke about how the IIoT solutions implemented in the company allow to reduce energy costs.

One of the first results of the summit was the decision of NII STT AO (Joint-Stock Company), Innopolis City AO and the Special Economic Zone Innopolis to launch NB-IoT, the first open network in Russia, in Innopolis.

According to the representative of NII STT AO, Ilya Tikhonov, the main purpose of network deployment is to push developers of solutions for the Internet of Things to use the NB-IoT standard and conduct their tests in real conditions. “The base station will be located on the street and will operate at rated power so that device manufacturers can test them for signal continuity from the starting point to the base station, just as it would be in real conditions. In the near future, a technical description will be prepared indicating the frequencies, power and other characteristics in order to eliminate inconsistencies”, he said. Also, the representative of NII STT AO noted the efficiency of the leadership of Innopolis - "we agreed on all the necessary issues in one day".

The Leading Digital Transformation training program completed the summit, which was conducted by Janvito Lanzolla, Head of the Management Department of Cass Buisness School (United Kingdom), on October 3 at the IT park in Kazan. The speaker shared tools for creating the concept of digital transformation, business model transformation and risk management.

The event was held with support of the Ministry of Informatization and Communication of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Investment Development Agency, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan, the innovation city Innopolis, and the State Autonomous Institution ‘Technological Park in Information Technologies “IT Park”.

Special partner of the summit was Transneftenergo OOO. Partners: Gradient Kilby, Neoflex, Quarta, Fortinet, Advantek Engineering, Aurora, Digital Transformation Factory, Selectel, Moxa, NII ST, RTS, TEKO, Tibbo Systems, ITSumma, HeadPoint.
