Tatarstan is among the leaders in the number of entrepreneurs in the scientific field

The total number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the scientific field in Tatarstan is over 850. This represents 4% of the total number of such SMEs in Russia and ranks third in the country.

The top two cities for the number of scientific SMEs are Moscow (over 30%) and St. Petersburg (10%). The Moscow Region shares the third place with Tatarstan.

There are over 24,000 scientific enterprises in Russia, and their average age is higher than that of the SME sector overall, exceeding 9 years. In Tatarstan, the average age is 8 years, while the Russian average is 7.5 years. 

As a reminder, Tatarstan offers a range of support measures for scientific SMEs, both financial and non-financial. These include preferential loans, guarantee support, and preferential equipment leasing. The republic also holds competitive selections for grants for fundamental and applied research.

The Tatarstan Entrepreneurship Support Fund, a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Economy, assists with certification costs, participation in exhibitions (as part of a collective stand), and the development of a corporate identity, marketing materials, and positioning strategies. The fund co-finances a portion of the costs (for example, 70%, but no more than 500,000 rubles, for certification, or 90%, but no more than 400,000 rubles, for branding), with the company covering the remaining portion.

Furthermore, grant support is often supplemented by federal instruments. For example, the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology implements the UMNIK program (for young scientists and their developments) and others.

The regional My Business Center also offers training and consultations on the commercialization of developments and the protection of intellectual property.

The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan and its subordinate organizations provide support to scientific businesses in Tatarstan under the national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy."
