On October 27, speaking at a solemn event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan at the Saydashev State Big Concert Hall in Kazan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the adoption of the regional Constitution was a step towards protecting and regulating the social and economic rights of Tatarstan residents.

Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev and Chairman of the regional State Council Farid Mukhametshin took part in the event.

Speaking at the event, Minnikhanov stressed that forming the backbone of the regional statehood, the Constitution of Tatarstan facilitates the preservation and development of historical, national and spiritual traditions, cultures and languages, ensuring civil peace and inter-ethnic concord. Moreover, the constitutional law creates conditions for strengthening democracy, socio-economic development of the republic, preserving the historically formed unity of the peoples of the Russian Federation based on the principles of federalism.

With the adoption of the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 1993, new approaches to the improvement of the legal basis of the statehood were formed, Tatarstan President said. The main document of the country played an important role in overcoming the turmoil in the state development, became the legal basis for the development of Russian society, defined the most important provisions for the interaction between the centre and constituent entities of the Federation and their development.

"For centuries, Russia has developed as a state with strong power, which unites territories and people. The overwhelming majority of Russians support the comprehensive strengthening of the country's power and its enhanced international standing. People firmly associate this strategic line with the personality and deeds of our national leader Vladimir Putin," Minnikhanov stressed.
